Morecambe

Well we went, first major run out for 2007. 7:30 a.m sees a good turnout at McDonalds for coffee (well, brown warm liquid). Me (SteveP), Mick T, Mick S. Paul, Shaggy, Jack, with very welcome guests Bill ‘n Diane, and Lee - good to have you with us guys. We set off at 8, first stop after a breezy run down the bypass at Skipton for a couple to fill up. Then off down the Settle bypass and left for Bentham. By now its REALLY windy, across the moors into Bentham and it’s murder. 3rd gear for me, mirrors folding back in the wind, side gusts threatening to have us off. Stop in Low Bentham as there’s a petrol station open, and Paul’s missing. Eventually a guy in a pick-up tell us Paul’s had to stop, only for petrol though from his reserve and he soon joins us. On to Morecambe, stop at the dome for a mooch around, bit of shopping at the parts fair. Leisurely beer and then up the road to the custom show/bar. Another beer and look around then we’ve had enough. Set off home just as the weather turns, - how shit and cold did it get!! First mistake is letting me in front - I cant even find my way out of Morecambe. Bit chaotic on the way back, we split up due to disorganised petrol stops. I find myself in front again and miss the turn off for Bentham - dickhead!. Quick U turn and I catch up with everyone ‘cos Jack’s Vespa died in Wray. Jack calls AA and insists we go ahead. Finally meet up with Mick T and Paul who went ahead to fill up in Bentham. It’s really wet now and freezing cold. We turn the screws and try and get home quickly. Get home about 4:30 and into the bath to warm up. Jack has a torrid time, AA fix his scoot and then he breaks down again in the wilderness 19 miles outside Skipton, AA again eventually fix it, but bugger his kickstart. Lessons learned here guys, we’ll stay together in future. All in all a great day though, Micks SX 200 went great, and Lee’s LI Special with a 175 kit (I think) was a real flyer. Shame about the weather, but hey - this is good old blighty, what do you expect!
